Find Your Volume

Volume (V) is the amount of cubic liters of foam that a surfboard contains.

The  volume of a board really helps to determine how it will ride and how it will paddle.  We have a simple formula that works to give you an approximate volume that will suit your weight and surfing ability.  Here are the basics:

  • Intermediate surfers that weigh 150 pounds would want a board with around 25 to 26 liters of volume.
  • Advanced  surfers should subtract around 1.3 liters  from that amount (23.7 to 24.7)
  • Beginner surfers should add around 1.5 liters to that amount ( 26.5 - 27.5)

Add or subtract about 1.3 liters per 10 pounds of surfers' weight above or below the base of 150 lbs      (example-  a 160 pound beginner surfer would look for a board with about 27.8  to 28.8 liters of volume. Start with V. 25 to 26,  add 1.3 for the extra 10 pounds and an additional 1.5 for being a beginner surfer.     25 to 26 + 1.5 + 1.3 = 27.8 to 28.8 liters.

Also consider that many shorter designs work better with extra volume beyond what you might want in a standard high-performance shortboard design
